Rocky Mountain Douglas-Fir
About this verified tree
A massive Rocky Mountain Douglas-Fir growing close to the highway near the Bridge Creek and Abraham Lake veteran Douglas-fir complex. The tree still holds its full measured height, but the upper portion of the crown is dead, giving it a distinct veteran form. Its trunk exceeds 12 ft in circumference, with fire-charred bark, a heavy bole, and survivor structure that make it one of the strongest old Douglas-firs documented near the road-accessible edge of the site. The tree is estimated at approximately 500 years old, having germinated around 1526.
