About this verified tree
This is a large Engelmann Spruce growing in a fire escaped pocket of forest near Cameron lake in Waterton. This area is one of the only local areas which did not get burned by the Kenow Wildfire. This tree is one of the largest of its species in the area, and is growing in an old growth pocket which also contains Subalpine Fir and Whitebark Pine. This tree is one of the last remaining true old growth Engelmann specimens in the area.
