Cenotaph Bur Oaks
Bur Oak (Quercus macrocarpa)
Bur Oak
About this verified tree
These two Bur Oaks stand in Beverly Heights Cenotaph Park adjacent to Edmonton's oldest war memorial — a cenotaph erected in 1920 by the Beverly Veteran's Association, possibly the first war memorial built in Alberta. The trees have presided over decades of Remembrance Day ceremonies and are described as two of the largest oaks in the area. The park was established entirely through community initiative and is associated with Thomas Dando, postmaster and mayor of Beverly (1918–1919), who donated two lots of land for the site.
