About this verified tree

This is the largest known living White Spruce in Alberta by all measurements. This tree is growing in an small, damp microclimate that contains multiple large White Spruces. In the spring, the snow reportedly lasts until mid May. The area surrounding the tree is nearly untouched, and resembles a pristine old growth boreal forest. The bark on the tree is forming a spiral shape, and the roots are covered in lichen. This tree's location is private to ensure the saftey and preservation of both the tree and surrounding microclimate; however, it is visible from a path, and requires no bushwacking to see. Submitter notes: "Spectacle of a spruce tree. Possibly largest in the province and would rival large Douglas firs. Upon seeing it you may develop tunnel vision. Tree is located in old growth boreal forest microclimate situated on limestone bedrock. Tree age likely 350+ years old and shows twisting and contortion at base of trunk. The canopy area is extensive with moss and herbaceous plants in adjacent area. Please be extremely careful if visiting this majestic specimen."
