About this verified tree

This is a large and elderly tree in the Strathcona neighbourhood. It was planted in the 1930s by Harold Ramme's father. In 2010, the then owner of the lot where the tree grows was planning to remove it to make room for a double-car garage. Neighbours Elaine Gosman and Kate McKenzie decided to try to save it, and hired arborist Gail Rankin who gave her professional opinion that "with some attention to after construction care this tree should give many decades of enjoyment." Other neighbours wrote to then ward councillor Ben Henderson, and Nancy Rempel submitted an article to the Edmonton Examiner. Thanks to their action, this tree still provides shelter and wisdom to the many inhabitants of kin's surroundings.
