Holyrood Eastern White Pine

Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobus)

About this verified tree

This Eastern White Pine is one of Holyrood’s largest and most noticeable conifers, with potential to be among the largest of its species in Edmonton. It has a tall, straight main trunk, wide-spreading branches, and a large upper crown that rises well above the surrounding homes. For a mature urban pine, it appears to be in very strong condition. The tree is also significant because it is the last remaining tree from an older conifer planting on this property. Historical imagery shows that it once grew within a larger stand that included several mature Lodgepole Pines, creating a much denser conifer presence in the area. With the rest of that stand now gone, this white pine remains as a rare living remnant of Holyrood’s past landscape.
