Manitoba Maple

About this verified tree

Against considerable odds, this tree has survived for an estimated eighty years (at least). It has been a delight to countless children who have attended the Sunday school of the church over the decades as they have been able to climb the lower part of the tree! As well, it has provided welcome shade in the heat of the summer for everyone. In speaking with a current member of the congregation who attended Sunday school as a wee boy in the late 1940’s, he told me that even at that time children were climbing the tree. (Estimating that it would have been perhaps 25 years old at that time to be ”climbable”, it would indicate that the tree is now eighty or more years old.) Every Christmas the tree is decorated with lights. So, as mentioned in the Journal article this tree is certainly ”...a living link to our history...(It has) witnessed our past and continue(s) to hold meaning for people today for all different reasons...”
