This is one of the largest naturalized poplars in the Bragg Creek area. This tree is one of the last and likely one of the oldest still growing this far up the riverbank, with spruce and lodgepole pine seemingly taking their place. There hasn’t been a fire here in a very long time. While that may not be great news ecologically, it is great news for ginormous trees! This poplar seems to be barely escaping the increasingly dense conifer canopy, but appears healthy nonetheless.
