About this verified tree

This is a large Butternut located on the west side of the Quad at the UofA North Campus. Even though it is growing in a shaded area, this tree is thriving and has a very healthy canopy. This tree has been identified as a butternut due to its common leaflet number (15-17), the presence of a strong terminal leaflet, hairy petiole, and smoother light grey bark. This tree was previousily believed to be a Black Walnut.
