Alaskan Cedar (Callitropsis nootkatensis)

About this verified tree

Upon the advice of a friend, Austin Smith, who is a horticulturist, I am contacting you regarding a cedar which we have in our backyard. Mr. Smith is impressed with it and says he doubts there is a similar tree in Edmonton. When visiting the farm of her youth near Lindsay, Ontario, 45 years ago, my husband's mother brought some cedar saplings from there to her home in Rosetown, Saskatchewan. She planted two there and gave us one to plant in Edmonton, which we did. Firstly we planted it in Belgravia and when we moved to our current home 39 years ago we moved it to our backyard. The tree has flourished while the trees in Rosetown which we saw two years ago are about half the size of ours. Our well-treed lot backs onto Whitemud Ravine. Mr. Smith thinks that the protection it has received from the surrounding trees has contributed to its and growth and beauty. It now has five trunks and stands a healthy proud 35-40 feet high. ~Heritage Tree Database
